For my Son of a Glitch! project, I chose the topic of humanity’s corruption of the natural world. This is a little outside of my usual realm of interest but I thought I’d push myself out of my comfort zone and explore more creative topics.
I chose to specifically explore eugenics because I was inspired by a quote when learning the definition of glitch. Glitch is typically defined as an irregularity or malfunction in technological equipment.
When I was letting that definition marinate in my mind, I was thinking about how the ability to customize the world around you, including the human body, is sort of a glitch of nature.
Eugenics would be the most extreme version of customization but plastic surgery would also count within my topic.
It seems that so much of humanities intervention forms into a glitch, a malfunction, an error, or irregularity. We are glitches of nature.
