My projection mapping project entitled A Woman’s Place is an auditory and visual experience that depicts the contrast between women’s projected roles and the manifestations of women in the world.
Through a hypnotic rhythm and misogynistic sound bites, the audience experiences feelings of unease and discomfort through audio. This visceral response recreates the feeling of being a woman in a misogynistic environment. Regardless of their gender identity, the viewer is made to feel that the comments are directed at them individually thus taking on the physical and emotional responses prompted by auditory encounter.
The most stationary visual element of A Woman’s Place is a white dress, an iconic symbol of femininity, which functions as the projector screen for the images.
Montages of found footage depict the wide variety of representations of women ranging from idolized ideals to empowering depictions of indigeonous women. These montages function as the infinite manifestations of the female form juxtaposed with finite constraints of conservative ideals.
