“Perfection” as Glitch is a commentary on the unethical practice and history of eugenics. This digital art series uses glitch as medium to illustrate the distortion of DNA to fulfill a perceived ideal of human perfection. A perfection that is free of human difference and that contributes to the eraser of individuals deemed as unfit to reproduce. Many individuals would argue that disability or racial diversity is a glitch of human DNA. “Perfection” as Glitch argues that the true glitch is mankind’s perceived reductionist authority to sterilize without consent and to determine the value of those seen as different. Although it has been roughly one hundred years since the American Eugenics Movement, forced sterilization has been reported by hundreds of women detained at the Mexican American border. “Perfection” as Glitch serves as a digital work to shed light on this unethical practice that has continued to impact modern American history.
