For the Faux Selfie Project, I decided to create an alter ego named Vanessa to represent the version of myself that chose not to pursue the arts but rather continued in my original pre-med track.  In many ways, Vanessa and I are the same person, we have similar interests and even the same internal dialogue. The real difference between my alter ego and I are both the external and internal conflict that Vanessa faces as a result of living a more "serious" life.  In my compositions, I tried to communicate this conflict of the internal and external through splitting and breaking through in various capacities. I also tried to make a clear distinction between the way in which she relates to her surrounds and the expressive and fantastical person that she is within her own mind. I also showed the ways in which Vanessa finds escapism beyond career aspirations such as traveling, food, or simply being playful.  In reality, Vanessa is the version of myself I decided not to be.
